Pro Chancellor nominations invited

Aberystwyth University Chancellor Lord Thomas of Cwmgïedd presenting Judith Diment, Coordinator of the Rotary International Polio Eradication Advocacy Task Force, as an Honorary Fellow of the University during the 2019 graduation ceremonies.

Aberystwyth University is seeking nominations for the honorary role of Pro Chancellor.

The role holder would deputise when the Chancellor is absent and would undertake mainly ceremonial duties, which could include presiding at degree ceremonies or acting as an ambassador for the University at functions and events.

An important part of the role will be working with the current the Chancellor, The Right Honourable Lord Thomas and Pro-Chancellor, Professor Dame Elan Closs Stephens.

The appointment would be for an initial term of office of three years, which can be renewed for a second term of three years.

The University is keen to appoint one Pro Chancellor during 2021 with the intention of presenting the name of the individual being recommended for appointment to the University's Council on 9 July 2021.

Aberystwyth University is fully committed in its duty to promote and encourage the Welsh language and culture and those appointed as Pro-Chancellors are encouraged to recognise and support this commitment.

The nature of the role would suit individuals who live within reasonable travelling distance of Aberystwyth University, and who can accommodate functions at the University around other personal commitments.

Nominations should set out an individual’s experience and suitability for appointment, and be submitted to the University Secretary, along with a CV, by 17:00 on Friday, 4 June 2021. Individuals may self-nominate.
