Finals Festival goes digital
19 May 2020
Theatre, Film and Television Studies final-year students will be presenting the fruits of their creative labour online this week, as one of the department’s flagship events goes fully digital for the first time.
Finals Festival is a brand new online two-day festival of original performances and short films by Drama and Theatre students at Aberystwyth University which will be presented through Facebook Live, Instagram Live and YouTube on Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 May.
Highlights include:
‘You are here’ by Hannah Evans is an audio performance that explores one of Aberystwyth’s most loved establishments. Close your eyes and escape with Hannah as she guides you through the Royal Pier, with a chance to let loose in your living room.
'Blue Lips’ by Eetu Merisaari is a bizarre stand up show about taxis and toes, performed live from Finland. Join Eetu and his family as they welcome you into their home, for laughter quarantined!
The full schedule can be found on the Aberystwyth Arts Centre website.
Dr Louise Ritchie is a Lecturer in Theatre and Performance. She says
“The final year showcase on campus is certainly a highlight in the calendar but the COVID-19 pandemic means that the event can’t go ahead in its usual format this year. Instead, the students have experimented with new approaches and ways of sharing their pieces by hosting the Finals Festival online.
The determination of these students to re-imagine their performances under such difficult circumstances has been remarkable and we look forward to celebrating their achievements over the coming days.”
