Our Diverse Planet: National Science and Engineering Week at Aberystwyth University

Aberystwyth University will welcome over 1600 pupils from schools in Ceredigion, Powys and Gwynedd on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week (10-12 March) for its annual science fair.
The event is organised by the University’s Department of Global Marketing and Student Recruitment and forms part of National Science and Engineering Week 2020 which runs from 6-15 March.
The science fair will be held in the Sports Cage on Aberystwyth University’s Penglais Campus, and will be open to schools from 9:30am until 3:00pm over three days.
National Science Week is Wales and the UK’s biggest celebration of all things science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Teleri Lewis, Widening Participation Manager and the event’s organiser said: “The aim of the event is to highlight how the work of the University and many local science, technology, engineering and mathematics agencies is relevant to everyday life, and help to inspire the next generation of scientists with fun and practical activities.
“The theme of Science Week 2020 is ‘Our Diverse Planet’. The science fair is an opportunity to showcase the excellent scientific work being done at Aberystwyth University to broaden knowledge of science among school children and show them how important it is to all our lives.”
Festival attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of demonstrations and activities. The Festival will feature interactive stands form the University’s departments of Mathematics and Physics, Computer Science, Sport and Exercise Science, Psychology, Geography and Earth Sciences, and Biology and Rural Sciences.
