Choose Your Future Careers Festival at Aberystwyth University

Aberystwyth University welcomed pupils from every secondary school in Ceredigion on Tuesday 19 February, for an interactive careers and skills event.

The Choose Your Future Careers Festival was organised by Careers Wales in conjunction with Aberystwyth University and supported by the Welsh Government.

Now in its third year, the aim of the festival is to increase and enhance pupil awareness of the different opportunities and vocational career routes available to them.

Over 1,000 pupils from secondary schools across Ceredigion attended the event, gathering information on employment, apprenticeships, volunteering and education opportunities from over one hundred exhibitors.

Pupils also had the chance to listen to talks from Hywel Dda University Health Board, Coleg Ceredigion and Aberystwyth University about careers and choosing the right courses, and get expert advice from a Careers Wales Adviser.  There were also interactive workshops and ‘Have A Go’ sessions.

Professor Tim Woods, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning, Teaching and Student Experience) at Aberystwyth University said: “The University delivers a wide range of outreach initiatives in schools and colleges, both locally and throughout the UK, to help pupils to make informed decisions about their future, and help raise their aspirations when considering their options.

“We are particularly proud to be partnering with Careers Wales to host the Choose Your Future Ceredigion Careers Festival for a third year running.”

Nikki Lawrence, chief executive of Careers Wales said: “Events like these are fundamentally important in helping young people take control of their futures and find out about their first steps into the world of work.

“It was encouraging to see so many major Welsh employers and a wide representation from local businesses and industry, all of whom are clearly committed to inspiring and educating the next generation of West Wales’ workers.”
