One World Week
One World Week
16 March 2015
Aberystwyth University is celebrating One World Week this week in recognition of the contribution that international students make to the University, the local community and the Welsh economy.
The University’s International Office have organised the week’s events in conjunction with the Students’ Union.
One of the week’s main events is a General Election Hustings: ‘The Immigration Debate and International Students’, which takes place on Thursday 19 March at the Department of International Politics.
The main political party candidates standing in the General Election in Ceredigion have been invited to answer questions from the floor on their policies on immigration and international students. There will also be an opportunity for international students to make presentations before the main debate starts.
Also taking place during the week is the World Fair, on 19 March in the Students’ Union between midday and 5pm.
There will also be a screening at the Art Centre’s cinema of Ida, a Polish film which picked up an Oscar for the best Foreign Language Film this year.
And on Monday 16 March at the Students Union there will be a showcase of international student talents at the One World Week Gala Evening.
Running concurrently throughout the week is the ‘With a little help from my friends’ campaign.
The campaign is a selfie and video project aiming to celebrate the many international friendships between students, staff and the community in Aberystwyth.
Some of the most positive experiences that international students have are the friendships they make whilst they settle into University life, whether with staff, fellow students or members of the community.
