05 July 2013
Louise Amery has been seconded to act as Director of the Arts Centre at Aberystwyth University, following the retirement of former Director Alan Hewson.
Louise Amery has been working as Deputy Director of Arts Centre since 2001, having joined the Centre originally as Marketing Manager in 1993.
In addition to her role at the Arts Centre, Louise represents cultural organisations on the Ceredigion Sustainable Futures group and is a member of the Mid Wales Entertainment Circuit. Until 2012 she was also a Director of Menter Aberystwyth and was for many years a Director and then Chair of Festivals of Wales.
Speaking of her appointment, Louise said: “This year the Arts Centre celebrates its 40th anniversary and during this time it has established itself as Wales’ premier arts venue and one of the most successful and vibrant in the UK. The recently launched 3 year Strategic Plan sets out our vision for the Arts Centre, one based on our belief in the power of the arts to transform society and to change and to enrich lives.
“I’m proud to have been part of the Arts Centre team for the last twenty years and look forward to working with colleagues to build on what has already been achieved. Our priority remains to continue to deliver a programme of fantastic arts events and activities for the whole community to enjoy.”
After graduating in Music at Bangor University, Louise started her career in the Arts with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Bournemouth Sinfonietta where she worked as Assistant Orchestral Librarian and then Concert Promotions Officer.
An accomplished musician, Louise performs regularly with Aberystwyth Philomusica and as an accompanist for local drama and music groups including The Wardens, who stage the annual pantomime, and Côr ABC.
Louise takes up her new role with immediate effect. The process to appoint a new Director to succeed Mr Alan Hewson is underway and the post will be advertised widely.
