University Face Off 2011
University Facebook 2011
02 June 2011
130 of the UK’s biggest and best universities lined up for the first ever University Face Off, a competition to see which university is the favourite of Facebook users. Millions of students signed on to Facebook to vote, like, comment or tag their favourite university in order to urge them to victory.
It will come as no surprise to those of us in the know, but the current students and alumni of Aberystwyth University united in their enthusiasm, support and immense affection to drive Aber to a resounding victory with a total of 3420 points. Second place was hotly contested by the massive Open University (1933) and the ever-popular Keele (1929), who had led the competition for several weeks, but neither came close to challenging Aber’s supremacy in the final stages.
A spokesperson for Aber commented: “We’re thrilled to have won and delighted that our students voted for us in the University Face Off. This competition was all about the student voice. Aberystwyth is a unique place to study and provides one of the best student experiences of any British university. Bring on next year for round two!”
