With more than 8,500 students and 2000 members of staff from over 100 countries across the globe, it should come as no surprise that Aberystwyth University is home to such a rich and varied community.
In 2009 the University launched its Equality and Diversity Scheme to demonstrate its commitment to equality and diversity, and support the new Equality Act 2010 which aims to promote a fair, equal and diverse society.
Now the University is launching a new bilingual video, Equality and Diversity, to further promote the Scheme and emphasise the value the University places on the diversity of its students and staff.
The 2½ minute web based video encapsulates the reasons why Aberystwyth University is a great place to study, work and visit, and one of the best universities in the UK for student satisfaction according to the 2010 National Student Survey.
Commissioned by the University’s Human Resources and Marketing Departments, it guides the viewer through the key messages of the Equality Scheme and the memorable cinematography shows a wide range of people from a diverse set of backgrounds, working, studying and visiting locations around the campus.
Director of Human Resources, Sue Chambers, said, “The video has been endorsed at the highest level, by the University Council. It is our desire to strive to promote and embed a culture where respect and understanding are fostered, and the value of the diversity of our community is celebrated.”
The video’s producer, Richard Gott, said “It’s been great fun making this video and working with many different contributors who were willing to give their time and support so generously. What we’ve achieved is a production that reflects the core underlying principles of Equality and Diversity both in operation and aspiration, together with an element of fun, warmth and a sense of inclusion.”
The video can be found on http://www.aber.ac.uk/en/equality/ in various accessible formats. The University welcomes any thoughts you may have so please use the feedback form on the video web pages to send any comments.
