The Council of Aberystwyth University at its meeting on 6th May, welcomed the outcome of restructuring of the Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS), in particular that it had been achieved by voluntary means, including redeployment. The Council underlined the importance of IBERS and its work as a leading Institute to address the global challenges of the twenty first century. The Council emphasised its full support for the Institute and its staff. It looked forward to IBERS continuing to build on its reputation at the forefront of scientific research, delivering internationally competitive teaching, research and knowledge transfer on a sustainable basis.
Sir Emyr Jones Parry, President of Aberystwyth University said “IBERS has a key role globally in addressing issues like food security and climate change. We have put IBERS on a better basis to move forward. It was inevitably a difficult period for all concerned and I would like to thank all who have contributed so constructively in achieving this outcome.”
