Science Café ‘07

Aberystwyth Science Cafe has announced it's list of events planned for the next four months, and the first one will be a talk by Dr John Fazey from Oxford University on Learning from Sports.

Science Cafe if a forum where people can meet and have an informal chat about the latest ideas in science. It's based on Café Scientifique, which organises meetings across the country and promotes public engagement with science and aims to make science accountable.  Since starting in 1998, over 30 forums are now being held across the UK as part of Café Scientifique.

The Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research (IGER) in Aberystwyth has been organising the Cafe in the Theatre bar area of the Arts Centre on a monthly bases, with guest speakers discussing different scientific issues.  Below are details of the events planned in the near future:

January 22:  Dr John Fazey: Title: Learning from Sport
John Fazey is Acting course Director for the Postgraduate Diploma in Learning and Teaching in H.E. at the Oxford Learning Institute, University of Oxford.

26 February:  Prof Stephen Eales, Title: The history of Galaxies.
Stephen Eales is professor of astrophysics at Cardiff University and is the author of 'Origins', a book describing recent research into the origins of planets, stars, galaxies and the Universe.

19 March: Mr Alex Bricknell: Title: Unmanned Aerial vehicles.
Mr Bricknell is Business Development Manager - Aerospace / Unmanned Systems - for the Welsh Assembly Government.

23 April: Prof Gareth Edwards-Jones: Title: Is nature conservation in the UK simply gardening?
Gareth is Professor of Agriculture & Land-Use Studies at Bangor University.
