Aberystwyth Postgraduate Study Fair: Wednesday 29th November 2006
The University of Wales, Aberystwyth (UWA) will hold the seventh annual Postgraduate Study Fair on Wednesday, 29th November 2006. Anyone considering postgraduate study is invited to attend the Postgraduate Study Fair, which has now become an established event in the University's calendar.
The venue of the Fair will the Upper Dinning Room at Penbryn Hall on the University's Penglais Campus and will be open between 11.00 a.m. and 3.00 p.m.
The purpose of the Postgraduate Study Fair is to provide an opportunity, not only for current students but also people from the local community, to enquire about postgraduate courses. It provides the opportunity to meet academic staff to discuss the various aspects of postgraduate study at Aberystwyth. Staff of the Postgraduate Admissions Office will also be present to discuss the admissions process and advise on financial matters. It is vital that potential postgraduate students obtain advice on these matters at an early stage in order to take advantage of the funding opportunities that are available.
According to Dr Rhys Williams, Postgraduate Admissions Officer at UWA, “From questionnaires received in previous years, very high percentages of respondents noted that their visit had been beneficial. We're pleased that we are able to provide this opportunity for potential postgraduates to meet staff from more than one department in one day so that they can investigate all the possible options that are open to them at Aberystwyth. This includes funding, which is a very important issue for all students.”
“There are numerous taught courses and research opportunities at Aberystywth for students to further their studies. If you have ever considered studying at postgraduate level, then you would benefit from attending the Postgraduate Study Fair. Take this opportunity to find out more.”
In addition to a number of external sources of funding, particularly from the UK’s Research Councils, the University awards a number of Postgraduate Research Studentships each year. Some of our academic departments also offer bursaries to Masters students. Postgraduate students at Aberystwyth also benefit from their own Office of Postgraduate Studies and outstanding research facilities including free access to the National Library of Wales.
