Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

Identify components of livestock production systems that influence productivity through impacting health and reproduction

Evaluate the importance of disease control in achieving efficient and sustainable livestock production goals.

Brief description

This module provides an introduction to livestock reproduction and health, with a focus on the impacts of diseases on production systems and how different components of livestock production systems can influence productivity through impacting health and reproduction. It will also explore the role of reproduction manipulation in improving production system efficiencies or combating certain challenges; and the importance of disease control in achieving efficient and sustainable livestock production goals.

Content

Through a series of online lectures, guided reading and quizzes, students will explore:
a. The different impacts of notifiable and non-notifiable diseases on livestock production
b. The components of livestock production systems that influence productivity through impacting health and reproduction
c. The role of reproduction manipulation in improving production system efficiencies or combating certain challenges
d. The importance of disease control in achieving efficient and sustainable livestock production goals.
