The level of the course will be determined by the students' experience levels and could range from introductory training to higher levels. The timing of this training will need to be during Semester 2 in year 2 and may necessitate the use of blocks of time in the Easter vacation.

Formal teaching of relevant health and safety regulations, undertaking risk assessments, and how to manage emergencies and incidents in the land-based sector will be carried out. The effective use of communication, supervision of people and group management in different contexts will be developed in lectures, workshops and presentations in Semester 1.
