Overview

Everyone experiences stress and times when life gets out of balance. This course explores the nature and causes of stress and approaches to managing this from a range of perspectives, including cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness and assertiveness. 

Programme

This is an online course, with weekly live teaching sessions delivered via Microsoft Teams. The assignments will be submitted via our Virtual Learning Environment, Blackboard. 

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module, students should be able to:  

  1. ​​ To explore the nature of stress and consider personal perspectives and approaches to managing stress. 
  2. To explore, using practical exercises, some cognitive behavioural and mindfulness techniques for managing stress and to explore assertiveness using models from Transactional Analysis.  

Assessments

  1. Multiple choice test (20 questions) 50%
  2. Short-answer questions (5 questions of 4 marks each) 50%

This course is for everyone. No previous experience is needed and there are no formal entry requirements.

As this is an online course, you would need the following:

• Internet access.
• Access to a laptop or computer with a web camera and microphone; the use of headphones might also be of benefit.
• Use of the Chrome web-browser where possible.
