Overview
This course will introduce learners to writing for radio and audio platforms. Over eight weeks, learners will explore the differing demands of writing for radio and audio platforms and examine the variety of techniques, skills and craft of creative writing for non-visual mediums. Leaners will follow this concept from the development of an idea, to introducing characters through voice, sounds and silence, to shaping the story, as well as reflecting and rewriting the work. Techniques to develop and create a script or piece of writing for radio or audio platform will be studied and through the assessments, learners will prepare and write a script or short story for radio or audio platforms.
Programme
During the course, learners will study the following:
Unit 1. Introduction to writing for radio and audio platforms.
Unit 2. Developing an idea which meets the needs of non visual mediums of writing.
Unit 3. Developing characters through voice, sounds and silence.
Unit 4. Shaping a story.
Unit 5. Genre and Style.
Unit 6. Critical reflection and commenting on the work of others.
Unit 7. Beginnings, middles and ends
Unit 8. Rewriting and Resources.
