Writing for Children of All Ages

Welcome to the world of writing creatively for children of all ages!

This course introduces and builds on the learners' understanding and experience of writing for children. It draws upon some fantastic, published works for children, and explores the multifaceted needs of the various age groups, to help aspiring writers produce suitable text for their intended child audience. We will look at how stories can entertain and teach children, but also how they may help them deal with difficult current world events such as climate change, inequalities and social media, as well as challenges in their own lives. It will also feature illustrating and puppet-making to accompany oral tales and writing fact and academic books for children.

This online course lets you study from home while connecting with a vibrant virtual community of fellow learners. The course is delivered through Blackboard, our online learning environment, any live sessions will be hosted via Teams, and learners will be encouraged to ask questions and contribute to the online discussion boards. It can be studied as a stand-alone course, and it is also an optional module for the Certificate of Higher Education in Creative Writing at Aberystwyth University.
