This new Historical Perspective on Contemporary Art module leads you through the developments in art from late 19th century. This is a period when concepts of “Modern Art” were developed and artists experimented with new approaches to art. The aim is to explore how and why art practices changed and the significant impact of earlier artists on the work of 21st century artists. There are lots of optional and compulsory tasks throughout the course to help you develop your own timeline of developments and recognize trends. It includes references to our own contemporary artists, but the focus is on the broader historical context. An assignment is assessed halfway through, and the final research project (40%) is submitted with the rest of the coursework at the end of the module.
