The Strand Line is a fascinating area of discovery, where waves carry objects, plants, and creatures on to the shore. A wealth of species calls it home and we’re going to delve into what you can find there.

On this three-day, in person course with additional home study prior to arrival in Aberystwyth. We make the most of the beautiful scenery of the Aberystwyth strandline and you will be learning drawing and painting in the field, developing your skills, observing specimens in situ and the impact that humans have had on the beaches. We will work on drawing from life, photographing subjects, colour mixing and watercolour painting in detail.
You will visit Aberystwyth to work on detailed drawing and watercolour paintings of the shoreline specimens we have found. We will also have talks, discussions, and group activities to really make the most of working together and the opportunity to learn about this fascinating subject and the role of science and art together.

Why not make the most of the journey and treat yourself to an artistic holiday and enjoy creating a beautiful Visual Diary of your time on the Aberystwyth strandline?
1. To produce a visual diary/sketchbook with evidence of all study, exercises, collated images with research and body of artwork for 90% of marks.
2. A 500 maximum word written piece on your work through the module and the challenges/discoveries that you encountered for 10% of marks.
An effective way to go about the reflective writing aspect would be to just add short reflections and thoughts on each of the tasks that you complete from each unit and then send along in a word document. In this way the work for the assessment is completed over the course of the module and not left until the end. Your essay is an excellent way to further your reflective writing skills, you could try publishing your work to local nature journals, blogs or magazines.

Your assessment is an ongoing process that takes place throughout the course. It depends upon photographic evidence of all the work done throughout the module. You will need to send all written work, photographs of notes taken, together with practical exercises, in your visual diary, and photographs of larger pieces and final artwork which forms your portfolio. Send these for feedback and assessment. This process is for your support, it will enable you to develop your artistic skills and your ability to reflect and evaluate progress. Your portfolio should include exploratory drawings and paintings as well as resolved works completed throughout each unit both from your in person works and in your self-directed study time.
You may not take the self paced version of this course XK15405
