This module will develop students understanding of materials, techniques and processes learnt at level one. It will broaden the student'r knowledge of contemporary makers and will encourage the generation of ideas to feed into their personal outcomes. The development of a personal language from researched ideas will be evidenced in the visual diaries and with the judgment and technical skills employed in the realization of their final piece of work. Students will be expected to demonstrate an understanding and analysis of their research and be able to reflect on their work within the context of professional practice. Students will be encouraged to make use of the exhibitions associated with the Ceramic Collection of the University as a direct learning resource. The module will be introduced by a lecture and backed up by two seminars and workshop practice and demonstrations. Basic technical skills will not be covered and therefore the module will not be suitable for students who have not completed the pre-requisites for the course.
