Overview
Students who take this module will gain experience of working with different kinds of garments and learn how to cut material and create new and exciting eco fashion statements from them. A high standard of attention to detail is required throughout the course. Students will start by making a simple up-cycled bag and progress on to articles of clothing, developing design skills along the way. Sewing machines are supplied for class projects but students will need access to a sewing machine between sessions. Regard will be paid to the features of the different types of fabric and their unique qualities. Start collecting old jumpers and clothing ready to up cycle!
Programme
We will start by making a simple up-cycled bag and progress on to articles of clothing, developing design, stitching & sewing machine skills along the way. Students will need access to a sewing machine between sessions. Regard will be paid to the features of the different types of fabric and their unique qualities. Please Start collecting old clothing, fabric and embellishments ready to up cycle for the following projects (ideal for presents!):
- Making a cloth shopping bag.
- Designing and making a hat
- Transforming a Bottom
- Transforming a Top
Making an Overgarment (apron, waistcoat, cape) from an existing garment.
