Overview
Have you ever wanted to learn the skills of working with wool and different types of wool needed for different projects? Would you like to learn more about the famous Tregwynt wool blankets?
This module gives you the background, history and movement of the wool industry together with skills that introduce the crafts that were central to past generations. You will learn the traditional local crafts through knitting, felting and making clothes from re-cycled material and wool.
Programme
Hooked on wool is a face-to-face taught course aimed at learners that would like to try out different yarn crafts in a supported way. No previous experience of any of the techniques is necessary as this course is aimed at beginners. The course is broken into 4 immersive sessions and a shorter 5th session completes the course for final project submission and assessment.
The emphasis on this course is based on your learning experience and not how neat your finished work looks, so if you’ve ever wanted to give knitting or crochet a go, then please do join us for some fun with yarn.
As well as the demonstrations and immersive workshops, we’ll be taking some well-earned tea breaks to reflect on the Wool culture of Wales and even dipping into the National Archives to understand the roots of Welsh Wool and how it has changed over the years.
Session 1 - Needle Felting - Storm in a Teacup pin cushion.
Session 2 - Continental Knitting - Knit, Purl, and Rib squares
Session 3 - Crochet - Foundation chains / crochet stitches
Session 4 - Crochet continued- crochet from a magic circle. And project introduction
Session 5 - Submission of projects for assessment and celebration of course success
