Overview
This exciting, practical course is ideal for those who wish to capture the textures, colours, and atmosphere of their inspiring local landscape. Develop experience and skills working on location, depicting the landscape from direct observation as well as in the studio.
Programme
This course is taught through a series of video demonstrations, downloadable handouts and PowerPoint presentations as well as 3 face to face teaching sessions. During these sessions we will make the most of the surrounding inspirational landscape and woodlands for on location drawing and painting, weather permitting. As well as drawing from the landscape we will be drawing with the landscape - exploring natural drawing materials and inks like oak gall as well as a range of mixed media painting techniques for capturing atmospheric lighting and weather effects. No previous artistic experience required.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Use their new drawing and painting skills and recognise the appropriate media for the task.
- Demonstrate an understanding of mark-making techniques and the use of colour, tone and composition.
- Use a personal visual language through annotated sketches and tonal colour mixes to gather information within limited time constraint and weather.
- Build a portfolio including large and small-scale work alongside a visual diary showing contextual awareness, recording methods and materials, and showing evaluation of the experience.
