Overview
This module will enable students to develop skills in picture-making by means of studies made out of doors, on location, on a landscape theme. Students will be encouraged to develop their responses to colour, mood and atmosphere, memories, the effects of light and multiple views. They will apply drawing and painting skills to gather information from different sources and process them into a resolved work of art. The module will encourage students to try and retain the freshness of their first impressions of seeing the landscape and provide an opportunity to study the changes in the landscape due to atmospheric conditions and seasons.
Programme
The purpose of this course is to encourage you to find new ways of responding and interpreting the landscape. We will look at the tradition of abstraction and the different ways artists have translated their subjects.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Use a limited palette and respond to the chromatic value to create a sense of place.
- Express ideas and expression through work on personal projects using a visual diary to record methods and materials of own and others work.
- Build a portfolio of work evidencing current strengths, skills and knowledge
