Overview
This module is designed to give a progression and have passed other modules in Life Drawing, Figurative Sculpture and Abstracting the Figure in two dimensions. This will be taught through the medium of ceramics, depending upon the chosen venue. A practical course using the existing life drawings to develop ideas, drawings and maquettes in preparation for a three-dimensional sculptured form. It will encourage experimentation of the process leading to abstraction as well as experimenting with different making techniques associated with Ceramics. Demonstrations will help develop practical skills needed to realize and develop ideas using the chosen medium. Students will be encouraged to investigate historical and contemporary references.
Programme
This course is designed for students who have some experience in ceramic techniques. It will also be suitable for students who have some experience of working with the figure in three dimensions. The course will encourage the development of technical skills to create three dimensional sculptured forms. It should be a very enjoyable course and teaching will be tailored to the individual.
During this course we will investigate historical and contemporary work to feed your ideas. The course should be very enjoyable and teaching will be tailored to the individual.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Show an ability to produce drawings and maquettes working from exploratory drawings of the life model to be realized in three dimension.
- Produce a written brief negotiated between student and tutor.
- Demonstrate a range of technical skills associated with construction, hand building, modelling, carving and use appropriate visual vocabulary.
