Adult Learners' Week

 

 

Lifelong learning transform lives, it enables more adults to move forward and build a better future.

Adult Learners' Week is coordinated by the Learning and Work Institute in partnership with the Welsh Government and is set to take place during September with activity taking place throughout the month.

Lifelong Learning at Aberystwyth University are excited to be a part of Adult Learners' Week and will be delivering the free events detailed below, to help make Wales a nation of lifelong learners!

The annual campaign will inspire people across Wales to discover new learning opportunities and pathways. The Adult Learners’ Week and Working Wales website will host hundreds of free online and in-person events, courses, and resources, featuring inspiring stories of individuals who have taken up adult learning, including specialist advice and guidance on retraining, Personal Learning Accounts, childcare, and redundancy.

Lifelong Learning Open Event

Join us at our Open Event on Wednesday, 25th September between 4pm and 7pm.

During this informal drop-in event you can find out what Lifelong Learning courses will be available this year and how to enrol. You can also view our new teaching room where we plan to deliver many of our practical courses in a number of subject areas.

Our art tutors will be demonstrating various design techniques, our staff will be on hand to tell you more about Lifelong Learning, there will be a showcase of the courses available within other subject areas and you can enjoy a drink and mingle.

We’ll also be welcoming Tony Orme to the Open Evening. Tony will be available to tell you more about Aberystwyth University’s £10,000 InvEnterPrize initiative for which our Lifelong Learners can apply.

Tony also organises the annual Business Start-Up Week which includes interactive workshops to help you gain the skills to kick-start your business ideas. Registered Lifelong Learning students can attend these events free of charge.

We hope to also welcome other businesses from the area including Menter Aberystwyth.

So if you’re looking at ways to improve your workplace skills, increasing your employability or thinking of starting a business, this event is the place to be!

Located on Aberystwyth University’s Gogerddan Campus and part of the IBERS facility, we will be housed in the stylish 1930’s Milford Building, just a few miles outside Penrhyncoch. This impressive building has a wealth of history and was once part of the Pryse Family, Gogerddan estate. 

We are only a 15-minute walk from Bow Street Train Station and the building is on the Penrhyncoch hourly bus route (No: 526). If you are cyclist, then simply follow the cycle route Bow Street.

The Art Studio and Training Room has free parking, a convenient disabled access, a kitchen, a quiet area and café just across the road. The teaching room is light and airy, and it has access to University Wi-Fi.

The building is within easy reach to woodland and green spaces that will enhance your learning for some of the practical courses.

Lifelong Learning Taster Sessions

We will be hosting a series of 1-hour taster sessions. The sessions are open to anyone who wants to find out more about specific courses or would like further information about the benefits of lifelong learning and the study opportunities available.

The tutor for the course will deliver a typical session so that learners can experience a ‘lesson’ and understand the delivery method. Lifelong Learning administration and academic staff will be on hand prior to and following each session to talk to potential learners to address queries and to allay any concerns. Current learners to be present and address the group, providing a genuine insight into studying with Lifelong Learning at Aberystwyth University. 

Tasters in the following Languages will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, 24th and 25th September between 5pm and 7pm:

Tuesday 24th:

  • 5pm: Russian
  • 6pm: Chinese

Wednesday 25th:

  • 5pm: Greek
  • 6pm: Spanish
