Access to Work
Access to Work Scheme has funding to help support staff with Disabilities or Medical Conditions.
For further support please contact equality@aber.ac.uk.
These are two quotes from staff who have accessed support under the scheme.
"I have been receiving financial help from Access to Work for over a decade now. They provide me with funding for equipment that I would otherwise struggle to afford and without which I could not do my job. This scheme has provided me with CCTVs, talking PDAs, mobile speech synthesizers, scanners and optical character recognition software, as well as specialised mobile phone and PC software."
"Getting an illness that leaves a permanent disability is an anxious period in anyone's life. The support gained from the Human Resources Department was quick, effective and brilliant. From receiving an access to work form from Job Centre Plus, HR ordered the equipment I needed on the Friday and it arrived the following Wednesday."
Occupational Health
Our Occupational Health service is there to support the University and its staff through providing access to a trained professional Occupational Health practitioner, enabling both individuals and the University to work together in addessing specifc health concerns and identifying appropriate forms of support and any adjustments necessary.
For further details, please contact the relevant HR team for your department.
Health and Wellbeing
This policy forms part of the University's general Heath & Safety policy arrangements as well as contributing to the promotion of good health. It encompasses issues such as stress, smoking, alcohol and drugs, nutrition and physical activity.
For further details, please contact the relevant HR Team for your department.
Free Eye Tests
The University makes provision to contribute towards the cost of an eye test for employees who habitually use Display Screen Equipment (DSE) as an essential part of their work and for a significant part of their normal working hours. The maximum amount that can be claimed for an eye test is £30.00. If the eye test shows that corrective lenses are necessary for DSE work then the University will contribute up to a further £75.00 towards the cost of spectacles.
Part of the form needs to be completed by a qualified Optician.
Completed Eye Test and Spectacles Claim Form (with all sections signed and dated) should be sent to the HR Department, with receipts firmly attached.
