Support for Retirement
Aberystwyth University provides two pension schemes, Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) for staff on Grade 6 and above, and Aberystwyth University Pension Plan (AUPP) with Legal & General to staff on Grades 1 to 5.
AUPP employee contributions can vary (but the default is 6.35% of their salary) and the University contribution to the Defined Contribution scheme is 10% of salary. The scheme also provides Death in Service and Ill-Health benefit cover. There are two sections of USS, the Final Salary section and the Career Revalued Benefits section.
If you have been a member of USS continuously since before 1 October 2011, you will be a member of the Final Salary section of USS. Employee contributions are 7.5% of their salary and the University contribution equals to 16% of salary.
If you leave and re-join the scheme, and if the break is 30 months or more, or you took a refund of your contributions or transferred out your benefits, or joined USS after the 1st of October 2011, you will join the Career Revalued Benefits section of USS. Employee contributions for this section are 6.5% of their salary and the University Contributions equal to 16% of salary.
Further information on both pension schemes, can be obtained from Payroll in the Finance Department. Further information on USS benefits can also be obtained from the USS website at www.usshq.co.uk.
