Mrs Sharon Nutting

Sharon is an adult nursing lecturer for the Bsc nursing programme. Sharon has been a registered nurse for 27 years, having registered with the NMC in1997 and obtaining her Nursing Diploma in Higher Education (Adult nursing) from Staffordshire University. Sharon has taken the opportunity to change her career direction into that of Healthcare Education and support the next generation of nursing students to grow and develop as practitioners. 

At the start of her career Sharon worked on an acute medical ward and then on a Haematology unit, gaining a wealth of skills in nursing and its procedures. Sharon completed her District Nursing Specialist Practice qualification  (SPQ) over 10 years ago and utilised her expertise working in the community setting, as a District Nurse-Deputy team leader for much of her career.  

Sharon followed her passion of caring for patients with Respiratory conditions by working as a Community Respiratory and Home Oxygen Nurse Specialist for 9 years, with 2 years as the Team leader for her locality in Powys. Sharon completed her Masters modules in Clinical assessment and the Independent prescribing (V300) programme during this time. Sharon has successfully completed Asthma and COPD care programmes along with ARTP spirometry accreditation. 

Sharon has a wealth of knowledge and skills in caring for patients in their own homes and reducing the need for admission to hospital. Sharon is experienced in a wide range of clinical skills, from chronic and acute wound care, to care of patients with complex and multiple co-morbidities and needs.  Sharon has a large amount of experience in delivering high standard Palliative care to patients at home and a good understanding continuing health care applications process. Sharon has been a mentor for many students during her career and is pursuing her passion for teaching in adult nursing.
