Developing our new Strategic Equality Plan 2024 - 2028

We are undertaking a consultation to help finalise the objectives and associated priority actions for our new Strategic Equality Plan 2024-2028.

Our recent and ongoing consultation through staff and student surveys, and the feedback that informed other key University strategic plans has identified the following six key objectives that are relevant to our staff and students and will form the basis of our Strategic Equality Plan for the next four years. These follow the themes of Visibility, Diverse Community and Development:

  1. A governance structure that maintains senior ‘buy in’ and that will raise awareness of EDI in all its forms. (Visibility)
  2. Creating an inclusive and supportive working and learning environment to recognise and increase the diversity of the staff and student body (Diverse Community)
  3. Ensure there is equality and an inclusive approach to University policies and processes in both physical and digital environments (Visibility and Diverse Community)
  4. Strengthen the EDI training programme for all staff members alongside targeted mentoring programmes to support staff belonging to underrepresented groups (Development)
  5. Monitor staff pay with developments devised to closing staff pay gaps and support progression  (Development and Diverse Community)
  6. Monitor student attainment with development devised to closing student attainment gaps (Development and Diverse Community)

Our commitment to Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan, LGBTQ+ Action Plan for Wales and our own Race Action Plan, Mental Health and Wellbeing strategy and Welsh Language and Culture Sub-strategy to only name a few that set out key actions for the University.

We will be holding several sessions for students and staff where you can come along to discuss and give your feedback on the six objectives above and have your say on the priority actions for the new Strategic Equality Plan.

Join us and give your feedback:

At the sessions we will be gathering feedback on:

  • Do the six themes and objectives of the SEP 2024-2028 adequately address these challenges?
    • What priority actions do you think should be included as part of these six themes and objectives?
  • Is there anything missing that we need to consider?
  • What more could we do to improve equality, diversity, and inclusion at the University?

If you are unable to attend the above sessions, you are welcome to email your thoughts and feedback directly to Dylan Jones, Diversity and Inclusion Manager (dej20@aber.ac.uk) by Friday 24 November 2023
