Movember 2024
Movember is an annual event to raise awareness of men’s health, particularly mental health, prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s suicide.
As part of our wider 'Inclusion and Wellbeing' calendar activity, this year we aim to bring our community together to spark conversations about men’s health and encourage men to “be the hero of their own story,” by promoting self-care and wellness.
It’s time to unite - and Movember have themed ways you can get involved:
- “Grow a mo” - If there's one thing it is known for, it's this. Growing a moustache is their symbol for better men’s health. It also grabs attention and starts important conversations. So give it a go – it shows the world you stand for healthier men and a healthier world.
- “Mo-ve for mental health” - 60 men are lost to suicide globally, every hour. You don't need to grow a moustache to take part in Movember. At Aberystwyth we encourage you to own your own personal challenge around the number ’60. - you could run or walk 60km during November, cycle 60km per week, swim 60 lengths per session or practice 60 minutes of yoga per week.
- “Host a Mo-ment” - On average, more than 13 men in the UK take their own lives every day. Host an event or attend one of the below to help raise awareness and funds for men’s health.
- “Mo Your Own Way” - There are many ways to better men’s health. Climb a mountain, break a personal best, quit a bad habit for a month or take on a dare for men’s health. Do it your way and you won’t go wrong.
If you’re interested in setting a personal challenge, organising an event or simply be part of the community – join our ‘Movember Microsoft Teams channel' which will help you keep in touch and to meet others taking part.
Donations help make a real difference, nationally and globally, to the projects supported by the Movember charity. You can donate and support the endeavours of 'Aber Movember Team' here.
We already have some events and activities planned for this month and we’d love to have you join us – keep checking, as more will be added as things get confirmed.
