Travelling by Car

Aberystwyth is easily accessible by road. Whichever way you're approaching from you will experience beautiful scenery.

Advice for Sat Nav Users

If you are planning on using a Sat Nav to navigate to Aberystwyth you will find the following information useful:

If you are travelling to Penglais Campus (the main university campus) it is recommended that you use the directional signage once you are near Aberystwyth.

If you are travelling to another Aberystwyth University location it's recommended that you avoid using minor roads, even if your Sat Nav directs you down them.

Charging Points for Electric Vehicles

In order to support the growing use of electric vehicles, Aberystwyth University has installed electric vehicle chargers at several sites across the University estate. All chargers are accompanied by detailed signage illustrating operation. View further information on electric vehicle charging.

Visitor Parking

During special events such as Open Days, Visiting Days or Graduation there will be signage and/or university staff directing visitors to car parking spaces.

If you are visiting on other university business please visit the Porter's Lodge on Penglais Campus to request a visitor's parking permit.

If you are visiting Penglais Campus to use other facilities, including Aberystwyth Arts Centre, please use the Pay & Display car parks.

Arriving by Plane to the UK

Birmingham Airport is the most convenient UK entry point for Aberystwyth. You can purchase a rail ticket to Aberystwyth from the train station at the airport or buy in advance online. The direct train service from Birmingham International to Aberystwyth is 3 hours and 15 minutes.  

If you choose to fly into London Heathrow, Gatwick or Stanstead, you can travel to Aberystwyth either by train or coach. To travel by train from London, you will need to depart from London Euston Train Station. To travel by coach from London, you will need to depart  from London Victoria Coach Station.  

If you choose to fly into London Luton, you will need to depart from Milton Keynes Train Station for train services to Aberystwyth.  

If you choose to fly into Manchester Airport, you can purchase a ticket to Aberystwyth from the train station at the airport or buy in advance online. Please note there is no direct train service to Aberystwyth from Manchester. You will have to change trains, so please plan your journey in advance for the best itinerary on the day. You shouldn’t have to change trains more than twice and the total journey time is approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes.  

Travelling by Train

From London Euston Train Station or Milton Keynes Train Station, you will need to catch a service that travels to Birmingham International or Birmingham New Street Train Station. 

At either Birmingham International or Birmingham New Street Train Station, you will need to change trains for Aberystwyth. The total journey time from London including the change is approximately 5 hours.  

Travelling by Coach

If you're travelling from London, the Coach terminals for buses to Aberystwyth is located at London Victoria. Take the National Express coach number 409 to Aberystwyth. Please check their website for further information: https://www.nationalexpress.com/en
