CONSTITUTION OF
THE UNIVERSITY OF WALES ABERYSTWYTH MUSIC CLUB

1.1
The full official
title of the Club shall be The
Aberystwyth University Music Club.
1.2 The short title for general use shall be the Aberystwyth Music Club.
2.1 The object of the Club shall be to encourage the appreciation of music by the promotion of concerts and by other relevant activities.
2.2 The Club shall complement the provision of major orchestral and choral concerts in Aberystwyth by arranging programmes of recitals by smaller ensembles and soloists.
2.3 The Club shall from time to time organise activities that assist the provision of music activities for pupils in local schools.
2.4 The Club shall cooperate with the University and public and voluntary bodies to widen the accessibility of its recitals especially to the elderly and disadvantaged .
2.5 The Club shall at all times implement its policies of (a) equal opportunity of access to its activities and (b) child protection in relation to the workshops and masterclasses mentioned in section 2.3 above.
3.1 Membership shall be open to all persons who support the aims of the Club upon payment of the appropriate annual subscription.
3.2 The Committee shall determine the categories of membership.
3.3 Members shall be entitled to attend all events promoted by the Club, to propose persons to serve on the Committee and to vote at the Annual General Meeting.
3.4 Non-members shall be entitled to attend any event promoted by the Club upon purchase of the appropriate ticket.
4.
Relationship to Aberystwyth
University and other organisations.
4.1 The Committee shall work in co-operation with the Director and staff of the Aberystwyth Arts Centre
4.2 The Committee shall work in co-operation with the U.A. Director of Music.
4.3 The Committee shall be empowered to co-operate and negotiate with other music clubs and similar organisations in Wales and the Borders.
5.
Management.
5.1 General.
The selection of artists and programmes, the general promotion of the Club and its activities, and the recruitment of members shall be in the hands of a Committee elected at the Annual General Meeting.
5.2
Finance.
The levels of subscriptions for each academic year shall be determined by the Committee.
The Hon. Treasurer shall have general oversight of the Club's budget and be responsible for the accounts. The Aberystwyth Arts Centre, which is subject to audit by the University's auditors, shall handle all the Club's moneys.
5.3 Publicity.
The Committee shall be responsible for publicity jointly with the Aberystwyth Arts Centre.

Committee
6.1 The Committee shall consist of the following Officers and Members:

U.A. Director of Music

Elected Members: 2 UA. Staff Members
2 Aberystwyth District Members
2 Student Members
6.2 The Officers shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting to serve for the following three years. They shall be eligible for re-election .
U.A. Staff Members and Aberystwyth District Members shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting to serve for the following three years. They shall be eligible for re-election and for nomination as Officers of the Club.
6.3 Nominees and nominators shall be paid-up members of the Club. Nominations shall be sent to the Hon. Secretary in writing, bearing the signatures of the nominee and the nominator( s) and the consent of the nominee.
If there are fewer nominations than places vacant. the Chairman may call for nominations at the Annual General Meeting.
6.4 The Committee shall have power to nominate and co-opt.
6.5
There shall also
be
the
position
of
Honorary
President
of the Club, which shall be filled on the recommendation of the Committee
7 Annual General Meeting.
7.1 The Annual General Meeting shall be held no later than the start of the first professional evening concert of the new season.
7.2 Notice of the Annual General Meeting shall be given at the Club's last professional concert of the season. and in the Club’s programme brochure issued prior to the new season. The notice shall include a call for such nominations for membership of the Committee as may be required.
7.3 The Committee shall present a report on the season just ending and its proposals for the coming year.
