Wales, with its rich history, stunning landscapes, and vibrant towns and cities, offers a wealth of places to explore. Here are my top tips for the most beautiful and exciting destinations every student should visit.
-
Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park:
The crown jewel of Wales, Eryri offers breathtaking views, towering peaks, and picturesque lakes. Climbing Yr Wyddfa (Mount Snowdon), the highest peak in Wales, is a must for adventure lovers. The Park is perfect for hiking, camping, and immersing yourself in nature’s beauty.
-
Cardiff:
Wales’s capital offers a glimpse into the city’s history. The Cardiff Bay area is great for relaxing by the water, with plenty of cafes, restaurants, and the Wales Millennium Centre hosting live performances and events.
-
Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park:
Ideal for students who love the outdoors, Bannau Brycheiniog is a wonderland of waterfalls, caves and rolling hills. Don’t miss the iconic Pen Y Fan, the highest peak in south Wales.
-
Tenby:
This charming coastal town is famous for its colourful houses, medieval walls, and golden beaches. It’s an ideal weekend getaway to relax and swim or explore nearby Caldey Island.
-
Pembrokeshire Coast National Park:
This is the only coastal national park in the UK and is truly a gem. Known for its dramatic cliffs, sandy beaches and turquoise waters, it is perfect for students who love coastal walks, wildlife spotting or simply relaxing by the sea.
If you’re exploring closer to home, Aberystwyth itself has many must-see spots:
-
Aberystwyth Castle
Built in the 13th century, Aberystwyth Castle is a historic landmark that offers incredible sea views and a peaceful spot to relax or to have a picnic.
-
Constitution Hill
For some of the best views of Aberystwyth, take a walk or ride the cliff railway up Constitution Hill. At the top, you will find a café, a camera obscura, and breathtaking panoramic views of Cardigan Bay, especially at sunset.
-
Pier
Officially known as the Royal Pier, this is one of the town’s iconic landmarks and holds the distinction of being the oldest pier in Wales. There are places to eat, play and have fun later at night.
