Seminar room - reconfigurable seating

These seminar rooms have swivel chairs and rectangular tables arranged on a flat floor surface. The advantage of these rooms is that academic staff can combine different teaching formats; lecture material can be delivered to small groups using a traditional, front-facing lecture style format, while the chairs and tables can also be reconfigured to facilitate seminar / collaborative work. In particular, research suggests that the provision of swivel seating facilitates more active forms of student learning, such as face-to-face discussions amongst student peers, with positive benefits in terms of student learning outcomes and levels of knowledge and understanding. Small rooms of this type can also be reconfigured in a boardroom style layout, which is ideal for participative workshops and university meetings.
