eVisas

The Home Office is currently changing the way that visas are issued.

All Biometric Residence Permits, also known as BRPs, are issued with an end date of 31 December 2024. The overall length of your visa is noted on the decision email/letter that you received from the Home Office when your Student visa was granted.

After 31 December 2024, BRPs will be replaced by an eVisa.

To ensure that you can view and prove your online immigration status you will need to create an UKVI account at: https://www.gov.uk/get-access-evisa.

You will need the following to create an UKVI account:

  • Your date of birth
  • Your BRP Number
  • Your passport (if you do not have a BRP)
  • Access to an email address and phone number
  • Access to a smartphone

To avoid  problems when applying for a new visa, or, travelling in and out of the UK, please update your UKVI account. This is particularly important for example, if you have changed your email or have a new passport.

It is free to transfer your BRP to an eVisa. Please be aware that there may be scams targeting international students asking for a fee to apply for an eVisa.

How to travel to the UK with your eVisa

If you used your BRP as your identity document when you created your UKVI account, you will need to add your passport to your UKVI account and link it to your eVisa.

Go to Update your UK Visas and Immigration account details: Overview - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk), select 'Add identity document', and upload a copy of your passport.

You will receive an email confirmation once your passport has been linked to your eVisa.
