REF: 66-2404-5375224 - Tom Lloyd Silent Study Area

Your comment: I am getting really fed up of the noise and behaviour in the Tom Lloyd silent study room on level F of the Library. Staff do not monitor every hour as stated. There are no signs or a sound monitoring system within the rooms to remind students it is a silent space, and the text alert system is unrealistic - you don't know if the librarian is going to say there has been a complaint, if they do and you're the only person in the room with a group of 3 - 5 people talking, they're going to know its you. Why are students coming to the silent rooms to talk anyway? speaks of a wider issue of a lack of study space/ awareness of computer rooms. It is a dedicated silent study space, personal tolerance of noise levels is irrelevant

Our response:

We are sorry that you are being disturbed by noise in the Tom Lloyd suite, which along with all of Level F, is designated a silent study area. Library staff do try to walk through all areas of the library on a regular basis, but we do not promise to do so hourly, and there are periods when we are unable to walk through as regularly as we wish to. This is why we initiated the Noise Alert phone. Please be aware that you can also speak to the member of staff on the Level F desk, and they can assist, and are sensitive to the issue of not identifying other users as a source of complaint. In the meantime, we will remind library staff to check that library users in the Tom Lloyd suite are aware that it is a silent study area.
