Your Aber Experience

We are investing over £100m in improving your student experience at Aberystwyth University. This is a major investment in the facilities which will be available to you.  They will ensure that you will benefit from world class teaching and learning facilities. This will be one of the most significant investments in the University’s history.

The main investments are:

  • Fferm Penglais - a major new residential project worth £45m will provide accommodation for 1000 students and include 100 studio flats
  • Up to £20m investment in redeveloping Aberystwyth University’s prestigious Old College
  • Investment of £35m in the development of a new UK Innovation and Research Campus at Gogerddan
  • Over £4.5m has been invested at our Llanbadarn Centre to create a new business and professional environment for our School of Management and Business, Department of Law and Criminology and Department of Information Studies. The centre now has refurbished lecture rooms, non-traditional teaching spaces, social areas and academic support areas.

Your technology experience

  • More reliable, high-speed WiFi now available campus wide and in University halls
  • £640,000 programme of investment in our teaching rooms which has seen refurbishment and redecoration of 13 teaching rooms in the Hugh Owen Building on Penglais Campus
  • 769 brand new PC’s across our computer rooms at Penglais campus, Llanbadarn Centre, in town and in University halls
  • We’ve invested in a fantastic new resource, Ebrary which provides practical alternative to paper books, allowing greater access on and off campus to vital study materials 24 hours a day. Read more on our Academic Services Blog
  • A new AU reading list service supported by Talis Aspire. Talis Aspire is a reading list system designed to create accurately referenced, deep-linked resource lists available in Blackboard modules and other online locations. Read more on our Academic Services Blog
  • The ‘More Books’ campaign is dedicating extra money to give students more books! This enables our students to have a choice in selecting resources to be purchased for AU libraries
  • A new lightweight version of Primo is now available, which can be accessed from a variety of mobile devices such as smart phones or tablets, allowing our students to connect to the library service while on the move
  • Student email and groupware services provided through Microsoft Office 365
  • Follow-me print solution across campus in academic buildings, libraries and halls
  • One of the cheapest University student print services in the UK
  • Live web screening of Graduation Ceremonies and Social Media updates for sharing with friends and family
