ABERforward+
ABERforward+ provides postgraduate research students with the opportunity to meet and work with employers.
The scheme aims to enable students to broaden their skill-set, and particularly to develop transferable, non-academic skills, whilst benefitting the employer by bringing their expertise, intellect and innovation to the workplace.
The Basics
Duration | Each opportunity will last no more than 72 hours, ideally worked 6 hours per week for 12 weeks, but other work patterns and less hours can be negotiated. |
Location |
You would not always need to be based at the employer premises, but this is preferable to remote working in order to provide experience of being part of a team and of working in a commercial environment. |
Nature of Work |
The work experience should focus on completion of a project of benefit to the employer and preferably include elements of: project management; problem analysis and solving; organisation and planning; team work and communication with others. The project does not need to relate to subject specific study or research – instead the opportunity for you to apply skills developed during your postgraduate studies in a non-academic work context is the main objective. |
Pay |
We will negotiate with the employer to pay you £10 per hour through the business’ payroll. Income Tax and National Insurance may be deducted depending on your individual circumstances. |
How do I apply? |
For most opportunities it is expected that the application method will be to provide a CV and covering letter but some employers may have a standard company application form they may wish to be used instead. Once the closing date for a particular opportunity has passed, the employer will shortlist and hold interviews. |
