Main responsibilities at previous employment

Hatty was responsible for the global rights business at Amazon's in-house publisher, overseeing the strategy, managing strategic relationships with international publishers, co-agents, authors and agents.  Hatty managed a deal pipeline and negotiated sublicensing deals for 16 imprints including fiction, nonfiction, and children's books for global bestselling and prize-winning titles. She also managed the team's attendance at book fairs in London, Frankfurt, and Turin.

Education and work experience

Hatty holds a first class Masters degree in Classics from the University of Edinburgh, and spent a year studying abroad at the University of Bologna, where she learned to speak Italian. Prior to joining Aberystwyth University, Hatty worked at Amazon for 11 years. Most recently managing the global rights business--sublicensing content to maximise revenue and increase readership. Prior to that, Hatty was responsible for book marketing and author branding for international, bestselling authors, and managing author relationships. During her time as Senior Marketing Manager, she was shortlisted for several industry awards.

Experience and knowledge

Hatty is a strategic thinker and skilled negotiator, experienced in building a global network of productive partnerships. She has managed complex projects and programme launches and implemented business strategies to address challenges and deliver growth, alongside operational improvements. In additional to the responsibilities described above, Hatty was a company bar-raiser, responsible for ensuring the organisation 'raised the bar' with each new hire. In this role, she conducted hundreds of hiring interviews, coached panels of interviewers, and guided the hiring decision-making process.

Main responsibilities within RBI

As a Partnerships Manager, Hatty's role involves developing commercial opportunities and delivering on a portfolio of projects designed to improve our engagement, grant capture and impact. This includes increasing the number, value, and strategic relevance of our engagements to stimulate funding avenues in a program of activities that requires developing relationships with individuals, organisations, local and national government as well as international collaborators. Hatty is also responsible for developing marketing and communication campaigns to promote the university's commercial development activities and investment opportunities.
