65. Professor George A Schott
Prof Eleri Pryse, Prof Andrew Evans
George A Schott joined the Physics Department at Aberystwyth as a lecturer in 1892 and was appointed Head of Applied Mathematics in 1909.
Cambridge University awarded him the Adams Prize in 2012 on his essay on Electromagnetic Radiation, which included the theory of radiation from relativistic electrons, now known as synchroton radiation.
This is important in radio astronomy and provides a powerful technique to study the structure of matter. He was made a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1921.
