Wales showcases commitment to innovation and collaboration in Europe

Aberystwyth University was part of an exhibition held in Brussels in February 2024 showcasing research and innovation at Welsh higher education institutions.

Hosted by the Wales Innovation Network (WIN) and Welsh Higher Education Brussels as part of Welsh Government’s St David’s Day Brussels 2024 programme, and supported by the Global Wales (funded by Taith) programme, the event highlighted the strength and breadth of research and innovation taking place in Welsh universities.

Research being carried out at Aberystwyth’s Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS) to help meet zero net targets was on display at the event which brought together key stakeholders, university leaders and policy makers from Wales and the EU.

Aberystwyth University showcases research to Ministers in London

The work of Aberystwyth University scientists was featured at an event with UK Government Ministers held in London in November 2023 to showcase the very best of Welsh research and innovation.  

Dr Kerrie Farrar spoke to attendees about the research on Miscanthus being carried out at Aberystwyth’s Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS).

Professor Richard Lucas from the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences showed how the ‘Living Earth’ project is able to map and monitor changing landscapes in Wales and across the world.

Hosted by the Wales Office and Wales Innovation Network, the event at Lancaster House highlighted the strength and breadth of Welsh university research, and its ability to deliver tangible benefits to communities in Wales, the UK and across the world.

The Secretary of State for Wales, David TC Davies, Department of Science, Innovation and Technology Secretary of State Michelle Donelan and Science Minister George Freeman and the UK Science Minister George Freeman were among those who attended the event, which featured 20 exhibits.
