Rhys joined RBI in November 2018. Previously he worked in the Academic Quality & Records Office.
Main responsibilities at previous employment
Rhys's main responsibility was to deal with postgraduate applications.
Education and work experience
Rhys obtained a BSc in Physics and Planetary Space Physics and then a PhD in Combustion Physics at Aberystwyth. Whilst at the Department of Physics he was involved in the 'Infinity' outreach activities set-up by Tudor Jenkins and Steve Fearn. After a period working on various projects as a research assistant within the Shock and Detonation Physics Group he moved to an administrative role in the Student Records and Certification Office
Experience and knowledge
Rhys has experience of handling different databases where it was necessary to collect and maintain the data and also use reports in order to make decisions based on that data. Rhys has dealt with the public and connected them with a scientific subject, namely Physics. He has worked in a research area that had close links with industry, sharing expertise and seeing the impact of the research. He has created and maintained websites.
Main responsibilities within RBI
Working closely with the other Research Impact & Knowledge Exchange Officers, Rhys is responsible for identifying and developing impact case studies for the Research Excellence Framework. His primary focus is on Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Life Sciences and IBERS. This entails working with the Associate Deans (Research, Knowledge Exchange and Innovation) and departmental Directors of Research to promote the recording of research impact data and evidence. Along with the other Research Impact & Knowledge Exchange Officers, Rhys can provide in-house training on research impact and knowledge exchange for academic staff, research assistants and Doctoral students.
