Dafydd joined RBI in 2011. Previously he worked at Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations.
Main responsibilities at previous employment
After completing his PhD Dafydd successfully applied for and developed an Arts Council of Wales funded project, which led to further work in community development. Most recently Dafydd worked for Voluntary Arts Wales and Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations as a funding officer. His experience has been in providing funding support, training and community development for voluntary sector groups across Powys. He developed the Powys Social Enterprise forum and mentoring program. He has sought and managed many funded projects for voluntary sector groups in Powys including community arts projects, social enterprise schemes, and provided funding support and training for groups.
Education and work experience
After his PhD Dafydd lectured in the English department at the University of Wales Lampeter before working in the Academic Registry and then developing his own arts funded projects and moving to work as a community arts development officer. He developed community engagement projects and consultations and set up eg Talgarth Regeneration Forum near Hay on Wye. Dafydd won funding which led to the conversion and renovation of the Talgarth Mill to incorporate a micro hydro power scheme and to become featured on BBC1 Village SOS (Lottery Funded).
Experience and knowledge
Dafydd has wide experience of bid development within and outside of academia and of helping others win funding and developing social enterprise projects. He has won funding for his own community arts projects from the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation, Arts Council of Wales, PRSF, Ty Cerdd and Daiwa Anglo Japanese Foundation.
Main responsibilities within RBI
Dafydd is a Research Development Officer for the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Aberystwyth University. His current responsibilities are to provide research support to academics and researchers in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, providing support for academic staff in the development, formulation and preparation of research grant proposals, to monitor sources of funding, identify and proactively promote new research opportunities.
