Urdd Gobaith Cymru Peace and Goodwill message

Students from Aberystwyth University have created the Urdd Gobaith Cymru Peace and Goodwill Centenary message 2022 on behalf of the young people in Wales.

This year’s powerful message, on the theme of the Climate Emergency, calls upon the young people of the world, to use the power of their voice to urge governments and large corporations to take urgent action to save our planet.

To reinforce the international importance of the message, a formal partnership was formed between students from Aberystwyth University and the University of Life Sciences in Norway.

Workshops were held with students from both countries to discuss the subject and prepare the message.

As well as working with the Urdd to promote the message in Wales, our students travelled to Norway for an event at the Nobel Peace Centre in Oslo.

Each student who took part in the message has made their own climate emergency pledges, such as not shopping for fast fashion and buying local produce:

Urdd Gobaith Cymru Peace and Goodwill message

“We are very proud to support the Urdd's Centenary Message of Peace and Goodwill and the central role that our students have played in developing it.  Climate change is the greatest challenge facing our planet, and our students' personal commitment to reducing their carbon footprint is a source of inspiration to us all.”

For the past 100 years the young people of Wales have shared a unique message of Peace to the world on the 18th May. No other country in the world has achieved this, overcoming wars and major changes in methods of communication, from Morse Code to radio and the postal service, to the digital networks of today.

The message, available in 100 languages, can be downloaded here. The Urdd urges people around the globe to assist in amplifying the voices of the youth of Wales by sharing the message on social media from @Urdd and using #Heddwch100.
