Are you an academic, researcher or PhD candidate who would like to build a media profile and take your research to a global public audience by writing for The Conversation?

Online live training

The Communications & Public Affairs Team arranges occasional online introductions to The Conversation.  These sessions are aimed at AU academics, researchers and PhD students.

During the session, one of the editors of The Conversation will discuss why you should communicate your research to the public and take you through The Conversation’s unique, collaborative editorial process.  They will also look briefly at style and structure, different approaches and types of articles, and how to pitch.

One-to-one

We have a small number of spaces available for AU academics or researchers who would like the chance to speak to an editor from The Conversation on a one-to-one basis over Zoom.

Maybe you already have an idea for an article and would like to discuss it further before developing your pitch?  This is a chance to learn how to consider the news potential of your expertise, how to look for story hooks and angles from the news, how to write a quality story pitch to section editors, and other advice.

To enquire about the availability of a one-to-one, please e-mail Alice Earp.

Online video training courses

Four short online training courses are available for researchers, academics and PhD candidates to access at a time to suit them.

The courses aim to help academics understand how The Conversation works, the editorial support that is provided, and to develop the skills to write for non-academic audiences.

The courses are mapped to Vitae’s researcher development framework and therefore can contribute to professional development.
