New University Secretary

Aberystwyth University has appointed Dr Gwawr Taylor to the position of University Secretary.
Gwawr is currently Assistant University Secretary and Head of Welsh at the University of South Wales where she is responsible for managing governance across the University of South Wales Group as well as developing Welsh-medium provision and compliance with Welsh standards across the University.
Gwawr will join formally in January 2022.
Professor Elizabeth Treasure, Vice-Chancellor of Aberystwyth University said:
“I’m delighted to announce the appointment. Gwawr has a strong background in university governance and compliance and I look forward to welcoming her to Aberystwyth in January.”
Dr Gwawr Taylor added:
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to return to Ceredigion and join Aberystwyth University, especially as it prepares to celebrate its 150th anniversary. It is an exciting time in its history and I very much look forward to working with the University community to ensure the continued success of this special institution.”
As University Secretary, Gwawr will lead the University's Governance department.
The role provides support for the governance and management of the University through administration of the University Council and main decision-making committees, as well as having an oversight over the whole governance committee structure.
It also supports institutional compliance with legal and statutory duties, particularly with respect to information governance.
Originally from the Lampeter area, Gwawr is a graduate of Bangor University where she studied Music and Welsh, before continuing her doctoral research in the School of Music. She is currently Assistant University Secretary and Head of Welsh at the University of South Wales.
