Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

Evaluate the concepts of One Health and One Welfare in relation to the role of the veterinary nurse.

Discuss the impact of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) on the veterinary profession, animals and their owners.

Critique the impact of the veterinary profession on the environment and climate change.

Discuss examples of emerging infectious diseases and the impact of these nationally and internationally.

Develop protocols for relevant community nursing and outreach programmes, with regard to Schedule 3.

Develop evidence-based research relevant to the veterinary nursing profession.

Brief description

The aim of this module is to discuss aspects of OneHealth and One Welfare in relation to the role of the veterinary nurse, with a focus on VN future projects that are of relevance. Topics identified by Vet Nurse (VN) Futures key areas include taking a proactive role in OneHealth and maximizing nurses’ potential, with activities including community nursing. The British Veterinary Association (BVA) OneHealth in Action report identified antimicrobial resistance (AMR), zoonotic diseases and the environment and climate change as main themes that the veterinary profession are considering in their attempt to make an impact in the UK.
