Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

Specify an appropriate research training activity that aids their development as an independent researcher in their discipline

Generate a set of learning outcomes that meet an appropriate set of identified professional development criteria within their discipline

Evaluate the impacts of an applied research training opportunity with reference to appropriate researcher development frameworks

Reflect on the acquisition and/or refinement of core academic and professional skills within an applied setting

Brief description

This module provides an opportunity to meet the academic PGR requirements through training provided by an organisation outside of Aberystwyth University. This could be particularly of advantage to PhD students who hold collaborative awards, or where specialist training is available from other HE institutions. You will need to submit a proposal for the training you intend to complete which will need to be approved by the Graduate School and then complete the module assessment.

Content

The module content will include an introduction to support students in completing a proposal for their external training activities. A programme of training will then be developed, together with the student, supervisor and training provider that meets the learning outcomes of the module. One-to-one tutorials will be scheduled to assure progress. Students will submit a reflective essay detailing the impact and outcomes of the training.
