Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1. You will demonstrate an advanced ability to translate and analyse texts from Old Irish and Middle Irish.
2. You will demonstrate a specialist knowledge of a selection of texts of the period and understand their place in the history of Irish literature.
3. You will demonstrate advanced skills in Old and Middle Irish grammar.
Brief description
Reading and discussing early Irish sagas. There will be an opportunity to read a saga, or extracts from more than one, in the original, and to critically examine the content and background

16 textual sessions + 4 lectures on the background and on the history of scholarship of the sagas
