On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

Analyse the strengths and weaknesses of a range of research methods, select the most appropriate and justify choice

Articulate and justify the aims and objectives of a piece of research

Apply appropriate research methods to an area of study

Select and apply appropriate data analysis methods

Identify, locate, and critically analyse the relevant literature pertaining to the area of study

Critically reflect on the success research process and make recommendations for further studies in the field

Brief description

This module offer an opportunity to undertake a supervised dissertation on a topic of the student's choosing. Student's will undertake an in-depth study on an area of information and library studies, archives and records management, and other related fields of interest to them under the guidance of Departmental supervisor.

Content

The dissertation is an individual piece of work of the student's choosing. However support in relevant social science and historical research methods is provided, alongside classes which outline and support the dissertation and writing process.
